THE HOLISTIC – FAMILY MEDICINE MALAWI (PDF)
Accessible as PDF via the link above, this is the first issue of “THE HOLISTIC”, a newsletter for the Department of Family Medicine. The newsletter was created by Lusayo Simwinga, a 4th year medical student at the University of Malawi College of Medicine. She completed the Family Medicine rotation in March 2017, and worked with the Department during a 1 week spring holiday.
When I asked her for a phrase in Chichewa that captures the essence of Family Medicine, with little hesitation she wrote wrote: Kunthandiza odwala mwathunthu, osati nthenda yawo yokha. Translated into English, “treating the patient holistically, not only the disease they have”
